CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND SERVICE INSTITUTE
2010 SUMMARY

OBJECTIVE:
Inspiring high school sophomores and juniors through civic engagement and service to get involved in their communities; providing them with non-partisan and innovative tools to make a difference on a day to day basis.

SUMMARY OF PROGRAM:
Each Sunday for 10 weeks, students will participate in civic engagement related classes from 1pm to 4 pm. There will be instruction and seminars, guest speakers, group activities, field trips, hands on learning and other teaching methods informing students about program content (see below). At the end of the 10 weeks, students will present on policy-making strategies as per the US Department of Education approved Project Citizen Curriculum.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

Who: Sophomores and juniors from High Schools located in AD12.

When: Sundays 1-4 pm; February 28 - May 9, 2010
PLEASE NOTE: APRIL 4- NO CLASS

Where: Janitors’ Hall @ 240 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA

7. Voting/Voter Registration
8. Community Service and Public Safety
9. Higher Education
10. Final Presentations
